The Market Post
Who: Merchants and You
What: Open Market
When: M12 D14
Where: The Market
Notes & Warnings: Warnings will be in individual thread starters as players see fit. Here is the market OOC post.
The weather is starting to warm from the dead of winter, but it's still cool out. The morning in the market is foggy, too, so the warmer food is still getting a lot of attention. Soups and hot teas and cocoa (refined from the beans gathered in the planet's jungles).
After the recent efforts to clean up the town and the brief increased access to other universes, vendors there are a lot of vegetables brought in from that, too. This has been the first time in a long time there has been such a variety so take advantage of the displays. There are also people that have been trying out the potion samples here and there, doing things like attempting to set themselves on fire or inhale water. Luckily 99% of them are stopping when they're warned when their timer is running out.
There is the odd idiot that doesn't know how to hold his magic. Injuries won't be grave when they do happen, just incredibly stupid.
If anyone who helped investigate swamps wants to talk to travel agents about potential trips home, this is the chance to do it. Remember that you can also take visitors with you when the time comes around.

[The market became something of a thing to look forward to for Grainne a while ago, and she wanders from stall to stall, picking up foods to stock her room with and contemplating on finally taking up on that spawner set for snacks Jeebs always seemed to have, and maybe a copy of that map. A wider hunting ground for bounties, and with the race coming up she could pre-scout the route...
Chewing on a hot pastry, Grainne looks around at all the people trying out the potion samples. Such a thing would be lost on her personally, but she thoroughly enjoys the entertainment provided.]
2. Candle
[Near the end of market, Grainne's passing by Harry Mudd's stall again, wondering if getting a speeder was really worth the price he asked for, when she spies it. A candle, old fashioned and attractive, and she stops to give it a good looking over.
After living in a world full of artificial lights, she did miss the glow of a flame from time to time.]
How much for this one, Mr. Mudd?

[Hello should work as an introduction, but sometimes he just skips right by it.]
no subject
A little. It does help when one feels that there is a role for them. In many ways it reminds me of my first home.

[By his feet, Nikolina reaches for that potion, leaning against Wander's body to grab it. She's unsuccessful, but it's makes him lean over and briefly loose his balance, bumping into Grainne.]
Sorry, sorry. [He looks up to meet Grainne's face.] Did I hurt you?
no subject
No, Wander, it would take a great deal to hurt. Are you all right?

[His regular exploration of the market was put on hold once he spotted these shoes magically dancing to the beat of an old-timey song the merchant was playing from his stereo. Nikolina in tow, he made his way through the small crowd of children and temporarily distracted adults to get a better view.
The kitten is awed by the display, and once the song is over, Wander sets her on his hat and speaks to the merchant.]
'scuse me, sir, but do these dance to any kinda song?
2. Potions.
Are these gonna be in stores anytime soon? [He doesn't ask anyone in particular, more talking out loud to himself.] Some of these can be really helpful...
[While he's distracted, Nikolina sneaks off to a corner and starts playing with a flyer that someone dropped advertising the documentary.]
no subject
Can I see it? [She's handed the generator and turns it around in her hands. Good quality metal, probably worth the price. If she ever got into a situation like in the ancient library, this would be incredibly useful.]
B. Documentary
[Jade takes a sip of tea from her mug as she peruses the wall of stills, stopping when she reaches one of herself or the people she teamed up with. Seeing herself in a candid photo for once felt incredibly odd, as if she was caught in the middle of a mission and her actions were made public.
She shakes her head, reminding herself that she was working for the greater good,
Another step, and another frame of her. This time, it's of her and Emilia kneeling over a skeleton outside a hut. They're both curious about the find, but while Jade has her back turned to the camera, those who are skilled at reading body language can tell she's a bit nervous in the image.]
no subject
They didn't tell us they'd be surveilling.
no subject
[She eyes the potion.] What kind is that? [Emilia had quickly gone over some of the stuff they found, but even now, Jade had no clue how to identify potions by sight alone.]

As for the documentary, in most of the pictures from his trip to the swamp he's covered in mud, right up to his chest. He'd sunk that far down before Linda pulled him out again, and for a few moments he'd been convinced he was going to die there. It hadn't been pleasant, and he doesn't need any reminders so he hasn't looked at the photos yet. He's not bothering to try out any of the potions either, but he is standing off to the side with his new purchase slung across his back, watching quietly.]
no subject
[He adds the map to his device so he can add to it while exploring, and then looks back to the photos.]
[Wait.]
[It looks like both Linda and Boone came dangerously close to sinking in quicksand. So when he sees Boone, he comes over and nudges him.] Hey, what was that? What happened out there?
no subject
What do you mean?
[He's not sure what Niko is talking about, since he hasn't seen the photos and doesn't know Niko just came back from checking them out.]

[No verbal greeting yet. Just an offer of a smoke.]
no subject
Thanks.
[He lights his cigarette, breathes out a cloud of smoke, and then offers Kay the lighter. Kay probably has one of his own, but Boone had his own cigarettes too.]

She stops next to him and looks at the image of him sinking into the swamp.] Was the entire place like that?
no subject
Kinda. Sometimes we could walk just fine. Kept changing on us.

[Someone wasn't watching properly, and now the enormous decaying flesh-monster has a potion of leaping. It bounds around gleefully, rattling tables and putting hairline cracks in the pavement when it lands.]
B.
[Where is Emilia during all of this? Scowling at Jeebs.]
How do I know this map is accurate? Three emeralds. At most.

[Niko sees the big oaf sort of splatting around. He'll just keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't get near the food because... well basically Niko's pretty sure this will be his last chance to have the right sort of hotdog for a while.]
You having a good time?
no subject
[Niko's voice catches its attention and it waves! Emilia told it that you were alive, Niko, but it is still so happy! Nod nod, yes, a very good time!
It bounds over. Boom. Boom. Boom. HELLO.]

[Emilia turns, spies her companion making a giant mess of things, and puts the tips of two sharp claw-fingers in her mouth to whistle.
The abomination almost trips over itself trying to slow down, then hangs its head and slogs back to her.]
Thanks.

[between the upcoming race and the requirements of her job, when Linda sees the map, she knows that one will be useful for her. haggling isn't really a talent of hers, but she buys one for what she thinks is a reasonable price. the map acquired, she steps away from the stalls to try to work out how to use it while she's still close enough to its seller to ask questions of she needs to. 3-D technology is, after all, another area that she's not particularly talented with, and she's struggling a bit with the display]
B. Documentary
[Linda can't help but be drawn toward the museum display about the swamp investigations. she gives the potions themselves a wide berth, though, still not trusting them, and instead focuses on the display of stills from the footage taken during their expeditions. she winces at the pictures of her and Boone covered in mud from their life-threatening experiences and quickly moves her gaze to looking over the pictures of the dangers faced by the others. her expression is worried, wondering if everyone else really was okay after that adventure]
