The weather is starting to warm from the dead of winter, but it's still cool out. The morning in the market is foggy, too, so the warmer food is still getting a lot of attention. Soups and hot teas and cocoa (refined from the beans gathered in the planet's jungles).

After the recent efforts to clean up the town and the brief increased access to other universes, vendors there are a lot of vegetables brought in from that, too. This has been the first time in a long time there has been such a variety so take advantage of the displays. There are also people that have been trying out the potion samples here and there, doing things like attempting to set themselves on fire or inhale water. Luckily 99% of them are stopping when they're warned when their timer is running out.

There is the odd idiot that doesn't know how to hold his magic. Injuries won't be grave when they do happen, just incredibly stupid.

If anyone who helped investigate swamps wants to talk to travel agents about potential trips home, this is the chance to do it. Remember that you can also take visitors with you when the time comes around.

[An abomination? Grainne looks at the creature with a critical eye. She rather thought it was a term not unlike "Servant," where it meant more than just the word at face value.]

So not unlike a golem in our world. You two must be very close, you sound very affectionate of him. [Though golems were usually familiars in the proper sense back on her world, those rules didn't apply.]

[More sketchy than Emilia could guess, honestly, and if Grainne had foreknowledge of what taking up the Holy Grail war had in store for her, she would have never participated.]

[She pays for the map, turns around to face Grainne.]

[The first thing that Emilia says strikes Grainne rather hard, but she hides her reaction quickly enough when the other woman turns around to face her.]

Hold on to him, then. I'm sort of envious.

[Her master doesn't seem to be a topic she wants to talk about.]

Why is that, if you do not mind me asking? [Grainne was a bit startled, the other vague thoughts disappearing in the face of being nosy.] Family is rare. Real family only comes once...

[Closing her eyes, she felt a wash of sadness for Emilia and her brother.]

Emilia... [She's looking at the ground now.] If you ever wish it, I might be able to help. We have spoken enough that it's obvious our magic is different.

Do you even know how an abomination is made? [Emilia snaps.

She's tired of people offering her easy answers to this when she knows there aren't any.]

[impossibilities]

[At the tone, she recoils and the mask she always wears slips a little.]

No, but I have studied life and death magic for many years. I learned from anyone who would teach me, witches to druids and gods. Is it not worth a chance?

It's worth a chance.

As you wish. If you ever feel that you are ready, just call on me. I will do whatever that is in my power.

How soon can you be ready?

[impossibilities]

I can be ready as soon as an hour.

[After everything, she's a little surprised Emilia would spring for it that quickly. Grainne half expected she would think about it for a few days, but it didn't deter the answer.]

If that is what you wish. Otherwise, I can be ready at any time.

I want to go over it first. What you want to try, how it works.

[impossibilities]

[She nods, slightly relieved to hear that.]

OF course. I will need to know how he came to be this way as well, and what kind of magic was used. I will need to examine him. Do you have a work shop already set up?

I have my store, and the apartment above it. What would you need exactly?

[impossibilities]

A space to work in that is well closed off, preferably constructed of something solid like stone, warded, and well used for magic and best out of the way of any bystanders. I will need blood undoubtedly, but I can provide that myself.

[There were few things more potently magical than Servant's blood, but she wasn't able to provide an alternate as easily as a male Servant would. Besides, blood was more appropriate for life and death magic.]

The space being made of stone isn't quite as important as being closed off, however. And I will need him. The chances of anything I attempt being very dangerous are high.

No doors or windows?

[She's thinking logistics, now. It would need to be portaled in and out, which is a lot of energy.]

[impossibilities]

Windows, no. Doors are all right once they are closed. The room serves to keep prana from escaping. Glass is very bad for that.

[ewestmarch]

Prana is magical energy, huh?

[impossibilities]

That's what we call it. [She nods. Then, after a small pause, she shakes her head and asks,]

Are you sure you wish to try today? Are you ready for something... like this?

[ewestmarch]

No. Not today. I don't have your room, and I need you to tell me more. But I want to start getting ready.

[impossibilities]

[She nods, obviously relieved Emilia wanted to be cautious as well.]

Very well. I will draw up a list of items I will need that I can't get myself.

Before we part though, I would like you to know I... I understand. [A small hesitation, as if she's debating finishing her thought.]

Always wishing someone back, and being stuck with the heartache that they will not. But keep in mind, [she swallows, feeling a small lump,] there is no cure for the feeling of succeeding where it was once thought impossible and yet nothing being like what you hoped. I sincerely wish that all goes well for you and will do everything I can to help.
