[Boone looks up as soon as someone opens his door and slams it behind them. He's in a chair facing the door, his rifle in his hands and aimed at the intruder. Beside him on the floor, Rex has lifted his head and looks poised to get up and attack if Boone tells him to. Both cyberdog and sniper stare for a second, until Boone gets over the initial shock of someone bursting into his room and lowers the rifle again.]

You lost?

[He wonders why he's in such a hurry, but that question can wait. At the very least, from the look on this guy's face he can tell this was an accident.]

[Bertie's eyes go even wider at the sight of the gun. Usually people who have guns end up pointing them at him sooner or later, and firing at him as he desperately flees through the undergrowth in his formal evening dress only to stumble into the arms of an unwanted fiancee.

It's a very specific but common problem for him.

But then the man lowers his gun, and Bertie's terror eases somewhat.]

Indeed I am. I was running for my life and seem to have found myself in the incorrect hallway. Or perhaps the incorrect floor.

I say, could you be an aid to a fellow man in desperate need and allow me to hide here for a spot of time?

[Boone frowns, but holds a hand out to Rex to let him know it's okay.]

I guess.

[As part of security here now, he can't exactly tell the guy it's his own damn problem. He gets to his feet and heads over to Bertie, but it's the door he's focused on. His rifle is still in his hands.]

What're you running from? Did it see you come in here?

Well, it's like this, you see. One of those Cling-thingummy beazels started screaming at me, and when a filly is interested and thinks that you are too, you can't hurt her feelings by stating otherwise, even if she does have peculiar bumps on her forehead. Just as I was trying to think of some way to convince her that I am not the one for her, a mighty fist smote down upon the table. As it turns out, the Cling-filly is already engaged and her fiance had no interest in my explanations. And so I ran, and thus you see me here before you.

[So... pissed off alien. Not much he can do there. He has a feeling shooting it would only cause more trouble, especially if it's over a misunderstanding with a woman. He looks through the peephole, sees nothing, and heads back to his chair with a grunt.]

Better hope he doesn't remember you if you run into him again.

[Otherwise, this guy is gonna be doing a lot of running and hiding.]

Might wanna figure out how you're supposed to say no to those things, too.

[Preferably without offending them.]

"No" is such a difficult word. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, you see. [And hence is the root of Bertie's life as a doormat.] It's not the act of a preux chevalier, and Woosters must always be preux.

I've never found it all that difficult.

[He tilts his head with a clueless look at that, though. He has no idea what he's talking about now.]
