There are two sunsets, first the primary star, then a bit later its companion. Tidal phenomenon is a bit more complicated with the extra body exerting its force.
It's simply part of my home.
[He tilts his head.]
You came here for curiosity then. A wish to explore. Did your leader, your...[He recalls her mentioning a king]...king send you or did you come of your own accord?
no subject
[She would have a hard time explaining how her sun and moon were said to have come much later after the creation of the world.]
Yes, curiosity is one of my great weaknesses. I desire to know all that I can and to understand what I can. My king did not send me. I doubt he has the presence of mind to realise how much of a treasure troves this place represents, not just in Alien artifacts but in the wealth of information that this place possesses as well. I am almost tempted to never return-- but then who would change my king's mind?
no subject
[Narvin understands the pull of curiosity. But...having been compared to her king with respect to his view, he has to wonder...]
Does your king's mind need changing?
no subject
[She had forgotten that comparison and it brings a bit of color to her cheeks as he glances away to collect her thoughts before looking back to him.]
My King us usually wise and just in many things, so my only desire is to help him to see that he cannot remain shut out from the rest of the world forever. Eventually the change he dreads will be forced upon him, so it would be better if he were prepared for it?
[She surprised herself with her own words and ended it as a question more to see how he gauged her thoughts than because she was uncertain of her words. ]

Spoken like a diplomat. Or like a person who has learned to speak carefully around a difficult boss. Very politic.
[It amuses him. It's not at all how he and his President talk about the same issue of change versus isolation. Their discussions usually involve shouting and insults.]
no subject
[She smiles a little showing a mix of sheepishness and playfulness, since Narvin had found her out.]
I did not think such skills would be put to use here, but more than once, I have found myself seeking the.. less volatile of answers.
no subject
[The problem isn't Romana. Romana can successfully negotiate with even the most irascible planetary leaders. Narvin just likes to think it is. When shouting begins it isn't Romana who starts it.]
How did you come to be a guard?
no subject
[So long as there is something he can gain from it.]
My king saw something in me that he felt was noteworthy. But I proved myself by being skilled in combat and quick to follow out his commands.
[There is a bit of pride in her voice there.]
no subject
[He says it casually. Changing faces is just a Gallifreyan fact of life.]
Quick to follow your lord's commands? Even the ones you disagree with? It sounds as if you do disagree with him at times.
no subject
[She smiles a little thinking of her more youthful years, loyal and happy to serve her king... and then of the growing dark that caused her smile to fade a bit.]
At first.. yes I carried them out quickly, even if I held concerns or voiced opinions for the task at hand. I think he felt my ideas were refreshing or took delight in guiding me. It was not until recently that I openly defied him...
[And she does not wish to get into the details of that. Not really, but if he asks she will share. ]
no subject
You should be careful with that, you know. Even acting out of the best of intentions you could inadvertently cause a lot of trouble. A lot of trouble.
[Or Narvin could just be projecting, even though in his circumstances he was the one fearful of change and Romana keen on opening Gallifrey to other races. But he was head of security on Gallifrey, and defied his president, and caused a civil war in the process. And so now he pretends to be a technician to escape his regrets.]
no subject
I would not say that. At least not completely. My defiance allowed me to shave the lives of several people. Three were children and one was injured... He would have died without my assistance.
[It still caused her some pain to speak of the vents from that night. Mostly because she could still see the expression of pain on his face and knew he had come very close to dying. Coming here had been to escape that night just as much as it had been to leave behind the wrath of her king.]
no subject
Does your king agree with your assessment? That your defiance was the right thing to do?
no subject
I have not yet returned to his side in order to bear judgement on his behalf. I decided to wait for his temper to cool.
no subject
[From what she describes, he now imagines her king being like a cross between himself and President Romana. (It's a terrifying thought.) Sharp tempered when pushed, capable of holding long grudges, and stubborn to an excessive degree.]
no subject
She blushes and looks down.]
If you are in agreement then it most certainly is. That is if I even return. I am finding my stay t be an educational one, and the work that I do is not so different to what i was doing in Mirkwood. I am content here. even if I do miss my kin.
no subject
You don't feel like you've abandoned your post? Running off against your king's wishes?
no subject
There is that, yes. At least I know my king has other guards able to take my place so I do not worry overmuch... yet. As my coming here is only the most recent in my latest transgressions, I have hope that he will not hold it against me too much.

[She is just worried about destabilizing her world by introducing things to it that could cause extreme shifts in power.]

No I intend to take to them the idea of simpler things. Things to make life better without causing all who see it to go to war for it. Things that all people will wish access to. Hot and cold water for one and a device that allows words to be placed upon a page so that it does not have to be copied by hand.
no subject
[Which makes him wonder... Was her planet an alternate Earth? A lost human colony?]
Where do your humans come from?
no subject
[She shrugged,] They were made by Eru to inherit the world after us once we have established the world for them. They were his second creations.
no subject
The system's primary star is called "Sol" and their planet is the third planet from the center. Hence, Sol 3. "Terra" comes from one of the Earth languages, and simply means "land."
[But her explanation of where humans comes from...his head tilts, eyebrow slowly goes up.]
Who is Eru? Some geneticist? [That is the only way he can make rational sense of the humans being "made."]
