[He shrugs.] What is is like to have only one? [But he has been on single-sun planets before. Two always feels more nature, though.]

There are two sunsets, first the primary star, then a bit later its companion. Tidal phenomenon is a bit more complicated with the extra body exerting its force.

It's simply part of my home.

[He tilts his head.]

You came here for curiosity then. A wish to explore. Did your leader, your...[He recalls her mentioning a king]...king send you or did you come of your own accord?

It sound beautiful, but would it not also be hotter as well?

[She would have a hard time explaining how her sun and moon were said to have come much later after the creation of the world.]

Yes, curiosity is one of my great weaknesses. I desire to know all that I can and to understand what I can. My king did not send me. I doubt he has the presence of mind to realise how much of a treasure troves this place represents, not just in Alien artifacts but in the wealth of information that this place possesses as well. I am almost tempted to never return-- but then who would change my king's mind?
timesbureaucrat: (curious)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-17 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's somewhat warmer than average, I suppose, although climate within the dome of the Capitol is controlled. And the poles and higher elevations are usually snow bound. It's an extremely planet as well compared to most inhabited planets. Still, it's very beautiful, with plains of red grass and forests of silver-leafed trees.

[Narvin understands the pull of curiosity. But...having been compared to her king with respect to his view, he has to wonder...]

Does your king's mind need changing?

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-17 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Your homes sounds beautiful. I would especially love to see the silver leafed trees and plains of red grass. Back home on middle earth we have trees with golden leaves, but I have never gazed upon them. They exist within another realm that my kin do not often visit.

[She had forgotten that comparison and it brings a bit of color to her cheeks as he glances away to collect her thoughts before looking back to him.]

My King us usually wise and just in many things, so my only desire is to help him to see that he cannot remain shut out from the rest of the world forever. Eventually the change he dreads will be forced upon him, so it would be better if he were prepared for it?

[She surprised herself with her own words and ended it as a question more to see how he gauged her thoughts than because she was uncertain of her words. ]

[Narvin smiles a slight, sly smile at Tauriel's blush and her answer.]

Spoken like a diplomat. Or like a person who has learned to speak carefully around a difficult boss. Very politic.

[It amuses him. It's not at all how he and his President talk about the same issue of change versus isolation. Their discussions usually involve shouting and insults.]

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-19 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
My lord does not have the most even of tempers and sometimes I choose ill fitting words, or press a point when I should not, but I have learned to talk to him as well as anyone can.

[She smiles a little showing a mix of sheepishness and playfulness, since Narvin had found her out.]

I did not think such skills would be put to use here, but more than once, I have found myself seeking the.. less volatile of answers.
timesbureaucrat: (MI5 Gallifrey)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-19 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's a pity Romana--my president--doesn't seek the less volatile of answers. We might shout at each other less.

[The problem isn't Romana. Romana can successfully negotiate with even the most irascible planetary leaders. Narvin just likes to think it is. When shouting begins it isn't Romana who starts it.]

How did you come to be a guard?
tawarwaith: (pic#7836374)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-19 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps King Thranduil and He should meet. It would be interesting to see how your president and my king behave with one another. My king does not always seek volatile options himself. He can be a diplomat.

[So long as there is something he can gain from it.]

My king saw something in me that he felt was noteworthy. But I proved myself by being skilled in combat and quick to follow out his commands.

[There is a bit of pride in her voice there.]
timesbureaucrat: (sly smile)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-19 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
She, actually. President Romana is a woman, at least in her previous and current incarnations. But one never knows what one might end up with in the future.

[He says it casually. Changing faces is just a Gallifreyan fact of life.]

Quick to follow your lord's commands? Even the ones you disagree with? It sounds as if you do disagree with him at times.
tawarwaith: (pic#7996113)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-19 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, forgive me my words. I am not used to hearing of a woman in power politically, though it does happen. S[he was thinking of the famed Lady Galadriel for one.] Usually positions of note are held by a male or given to a male heir.

[She smiles a little thinking of her more youthful years, loyal and happy to serve her king... and then of the growing dark that caused her smile to fade a bit.]

At first.. yes I carried them out quickly, even if I held concerns or voiced opinions for the task at hand. I think he felt my ideas were refreshing or took delight in guiding me. It was not until recently that I openly defied him...

[And she does not wish to get into the details of that. Not really, but if he asks she will share. ]

Your ideological differences became too great?

You should be careful with that, you know. Even acting out of the best of intentions you could inadvertently cause a lot of trouble. A lot of trouble.

[Or Narvin could just be projecting, even though in his circumstances he was the one fearful of change and Romana keen on opening Gallifrey to other races. But he was head of security on Gallifrey, and defied his president, and caused a civil war in the process. And so now he pretends to be a technician to escape his regrets.]

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[His words cause her to look at him angrily, though she keeps her tone quiet so as not to draw attention to themselves.]

I would not say that. At least not completely. My defiance allowed me to shave the lives of several people. Three were children and one was injured... He would have died without my assistance.

[It still caused her some pain to speak of the vents from that night. Mostly because she could still see the expression of pain on his face and knew he had come very close to dying. Coming here had been to escape that night just as much as it had been to leave behind the wrath of her king.]
timesbureaucrat: (sinister green)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-22 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Narvin's eyes simply narrow slightly.]

Does your king agree with your assessment? That your defiance was the right thing to do?
tawarwaith: (Default)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-23 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[This is where she shifts uncomfortably. ]

I have not yet returned to his side in order to bear judgement on his behalf. I decided to wait for his temper to cool.
timesbureaucrat: (quirk?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-23 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Probably a wise choice.

[From what she describes, he now imagines her king being like a cross between himself and President Romana. (It's a terrifying thought.) Sharp tempered when pushed, capable of holding long grudges, and stubborn to an excessive degree.]
tawarwaith: (Default)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-23 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thaaaaat would indeed be her king.

She blushes and looks down.]

If you are in agreement then it most certainly is. That is if I even return. I am finding my stay t be an educational one, and the work that I do is not so different to what i was doing in Mirkwood. I am content here. even if I do miss my kin.
timesbureaucrat: (head tilt)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-24 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[For his part, Narvin finds it incomprehensible. For all his curiosity, he's not an adventurer and he's too attached to his home to want to leave it for good. His nationalism causes him to cling to the belief that his home planet is superior to all other places in the universe.]

You don't feel like you've abandoned your post? Running off against your king's wishes?
tawarwaith: (pic#7996121)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-24 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
[In truth she loves her home very much and the people there. Her entire race is there, her culture , her people. And if she dies her soul will go there. Though she speaks about never returning, she knows she will return one day, perhaps sooner than later. At the moment she speaks with the braggadocio of the young.]

There is that, yes. At least I know my king has other guards able to take my place so I do not worry overmuch... yet. As my coming here is only the most recent in my latest transgressions, I have hope that he will not hold it against me too much.
timesbureaucrat: (interested)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-24 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I suppose that you at least have the advantage of time. A few years here and there is nothing when one's lifespan is measured in millennia. Certainly, that's the only reason I am willing to be here. [That and he may find something here to help his planet, a cure for the dogma virus pandemic perhaps.]
tawarwaith: (pic#8066734)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-24 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
Being one of the immortal races does have some advantages. As does being in this place here and now. Already there is much I can return home with that might improve the quality of life the world over in Arda.

[She is just worried about destabilizing her world by introducing things to it that could cause extreme shifts in power.]

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-25 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I do hope you're not thinking of taking highly advanced technology back with you. Hand automatic ballistic weapons to people used to conducting warfare with swords on horseback and it's a recipe for disaster. Just ask the Terrans about the First World War.
tawarwaith: (pic#7996113)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-26 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ask who? [She tilts her head confused, having never heard of that term before and thus having no knowledge of who or what that is.]

No I intend to take to them the idea of simpler things. Things to make life better without causing all who see it to go to war for it. Things that all people will wish access to. Hot and cold water for one and a device that allows words to be placed upon a page so that it does not have to be copied by hand.
timesbureaucrat: (curious)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-26 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The humans. Specifically those from Earth. "Terra" is a common alternative name for their home planet, as is "Sol 3."

[Which makes him wonder... Was her planet an alternate Earth? A lost human colony?]

Where do your humans come from?
tawarwaith: (pic#7821913)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-07-27 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I wonder why it is they call it Terra or this sol 3. Does it mean it have three souls?

[She shrugged,] They were made by Eru to inherit the world after us once we have established the world for them. They were his second creations.
timesbureaucrat: (bwh?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-07-27 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Narvin sniffs in a short and quiet laugh.]

The system's primary star is called "Sol" and their planet is the third planet from the center. Hence, Sol 3. "Terra" comes from one of the Earth languages, and simply means "land."

[But her explanation of where humans comes from...his head tilts, eyebrow slowly goes up.]

Who is Eru? Some geneticist? [That is the only way he can make rational sense of the humans being "made."]
