EDIT: It can be noted that, once exposed to sunlight, the skeleton archers start to deteriorate. This can be discovered in the course of the threads.

It's not too hard. Feed it more. And then take it to the vet if it starts looking like it hurts. I think you would notice that.

[She definitely doesn't now, just sluggish and lazy, and finally she curls up and lays there. He stops petting because her back is up against the black cat now.]

So, uh. Did anyone figure out what that temple actually was yet?

No. They've not had much time to look into it. I don't think we found everything in there, so me and that Belloq guy must go back.

Did the armor help?

Wore it when I was helping out with the skeletons. Pretty easy to move around in. Was expecting it to be heavier.

[It's still weird to talk about what happened out there. The closest thing he's fought to a skeleton is a feral ghoul, but even then he understands what's happened to them and why they're like that. Skeletons, though? How the hell are they even moving? Why do they all have bows and arrows? It's a complete mystery.]

Wonder who made it.

[He says that without a second thought. He doesn't even miss a beat, really. Just "Crazy people."]

[But then he thinks more on it.]

I think they were scared of something. All of these temples, thy look like they are asking for help. Like when people are very religious when they're afraid things might hurt them.

It doesn't stop them from being hurt, but they hope something bigger than them can help.

Maybe the armour would've been more useful to them if they wore it instead of putting it inside a chest.

[Or maybe not, considering what happened to them. It couldn't have been the only set of armour they made, but they've still disappeared.]

What else have you found in those temples? Any idea what they were scared of?

Sometimes old weapons. Swords. Machines. No guns. That picture was the first one I've seen- the one on the puzzle.

But other than this? No. [He shakes his head.] If that's real good armor, though, maybe something that didn't give a shit about armor.

[Boone goes quiet for a few moments, looking thoughtful. He can't think of what might have happened here, though.]

What do you think that picture was? Never seen anything like it before... think they were making offerings to that thing?

[He can't see why else the most valuable chest contents would be underneath that picture. Sure, it acted as a puzzle, but they didn't have to use that picture just for that.]

I don't really know. I don't think that armor would have fit it. [That's a strange thing to say, but it doesn't seem like an offering.] Maybe is part of a story?

Maybe. Not sure what kinda story only has one picture, though. Didn't see any others inside there.

I guess I could pay more attention- usually I'm looking for traps and seeing if the chests are fucked with. But if something made everyone go away once- well I guess we could fuck off and not worry about it, but no one else here could.

[That's an oddly heroic though, the novelty of being able to do more than just get by. To actually start to look out for other people because he has enough. He presses his cheek against his cat as he thinks about that, and comes away with strands of thin white hairs in his bristle.]

[He gestures to his own cheek when he notices the hairs on Niko's.]

[His stubble, right? Of course Boone is referring to his stubble. He doesn't understand why he'd only tell him now.]

[Oh wait.]

Oh you mean-

[And then he clumsily rubs his cheek with the heel of his hand, wrinkling up his nose.] I don't know. History tends to repeat itself but maybe not.

Well, hopefully it won't happen while we're here.

[Only, he wouldn't be surprised if it did. If he and Niko both have a habit of bringing death and misfortune upon others, maybe the both of them together will manage to bring about the death of everyone living here. He reaches into his pocket and lights a cigarette, imagining missiles raining down on the village.]

I'm fucking staying despite the asshole skeletons. Says something about what sort of a shitty world I come from.

[Boone thinks there would be something funny about the big mystery simply being "everyone decided to leave". It doesn't quite make it to his face, though.]

Think I'd rather deal with skeletons than some of the things back home, too. Even the creepers aren't so bad if you've got a cat with you.

[It's hard to tell if he's exaggerating or not.] It's going to make my job shittier if the museum still sends people out.

Don't see why they wouldn't. Creepers didn't stop them, and I still think those are worse.

[You can hear a skeleton clanking about from a pretty good distance, and they're not hard to take down. After all, there's barely anything holding them up.]

If I get shot up, come find me because I know I will live and I'll be very angry.

And between you and me, I am not sure I trust Belloq to stay with me if I have an accident. I think he would tell but he would probably run first. I don't want to be stuck as a pin-cushion for a very long time waiting for help.
