Season Finale

Who: Anyone who wants to be involved
What: The official pre-reboot/season end post
When: The spawner activation
Where: At the resort
Notes & Warnings: If anyone wants to play out any rescue scenarios involving the skeleton archers, there's a thread available for that/accounting for what happened as well. Violence as a general warning and whatever other warnings are mentioned.

EDIT: It can be noted that, once exposed to sunlight, the skeleton archers start to deteriorate. This can be discovered in the course of the threads.

Narvin disliked danger and taking risks. But he disliked enemy attackers even more. This resort wasn't his home, but he'd still been here long enough to feel enraged when something dared attack it and he's determined to find out where they're coming from and cut off their method of entrance.

And so he changed the setting on his staser so it would pack a more powerful (and fatal) punch and waded into the fray. If he saw someone in immediate danger of losing their life, he'd help where he could, but his primary goal was to seek out the source and for that he couldn't let himself be distracted by the chaos or by others in peril.

Ben had been scooting people towards Wander and taking careful shots at groups of the strange attackers.

Part of him did want to make sure they were preserved for later-- btit was a sensible part, that wanted to survive, thanks.

"Narvin, can you see where they're getting in?"

"Not yet. They seem to be appearing everywhere, from all directions, despite the fence integrity still being sound. Perhaps they're being transmatted in but that would mean that there has to be a transmat somewhere."

Still holding his staser in one hand, he pulled out a scanner with his other and aimed it at one of the skeletons, taking readings, gathering data, anything that might help determine where they were coming from.

"There are sonic readings of any possible caves, aren't there? Maybe they aren't coming through. Maybe they're coming up. A transmat would have a big energy reading."

Narvin switched the settings on his scanner with a brisk jabbing at a few buttons. He observed the results for a moment before speaking.

"Yes, there is a cave system underneath the town. We might be able to access it through the sewer drainage."

"Right. Then let's go-! Charge left in your weapon?" He's already starting toward the nearest manhole.

"It has a perpetual recharging mechanism. It never runs out of charge."

He could, hypothetically, get ahead of its charging capacity if he fired too much too quickly, and then would need to wait for the charge to rebuild, but Narvin made a careful point of never getting so deep in danger or so surrounded by enemies that that became a risk. And if he found himself in such a position anyway, he would run away until he was in a location more favourable to himself.

Except now, when there really was no other choice.

"Jumping into the sewers. I'm going to need to shower for weeks after this."

"Feel free to stay on the surface-- if one of those things kill you, the local microbes will clean you up eventually."

He clambers into the dark, swearing when he touches soggy ground. "Stinks like Nifflheim down here, though, I'll give you that. Send down that scanner."

"I'm coming down. There's no telling what might be down there and at least one person needs to reach the source. The chances of that happening are better if more than one person proceed below.

"But I feel no obligation to be happy about it." Narvin's face looked rather like he was never happy about anything. But he was particularly unhappy about crawling through a sewer, but he'd do it to protect the settlement.

"And the scanner is staying with me. It's against regulation to let aliens have access to Gallifreyan equipment. If I should die, you can always take it from my corpse."

"So noted," Ben said dryly. He rummaged on his belt-- he didn't bring his big sturdy clip light. He'd prepared for an attack, not a spelunking expedition. All he had was a little keyfob light, a wan LED, but he illuminated the rungs of the access ladder in its watery light for Narvin to come down.

"And as soon as you're down here, look for any big energy spikes on this level. We know the tunnels run all over down here."

Narvin climbed down the ladder, the last few steps a bit slower and more hesitant. On the last step he paused, his jaw tightened, and he begrudgingly hopped into the dank, calf-deep water.

He took his scanner out again and glanced at the readings.

"We should head East."

"You scan. I'll cover you," Ben said, with all the resolution of a man who's stood in -- if not worst, at least equally bad.

"Agreed." He peered at his scanner in the dim light and added, "But if I die in this... muck," he'd been tempted to call it something less polite, "I can't be held responsible for my temper in my next incarnation."
