Wander Log | The Spawner Room

Who: Wander, Niko, and Ben
What: Finding Wander in the mineshafts and exploring the spawner room.

[There's a section of the docks that's gone unused for years, with several dilapidated warehouses standing near the river far form town. One of these is a concrete building a couple of stories high with several cracks forming all along the walls.]

Ben promised a quarter hour, and it doesn't take more than that to get there with Kay-- it's cautious going from there, though. Some of these buildings look on the edge of collapse and he knows there'll be no trusting the floors. He's worried about Wander; fifteen minutes is plenty of time for things to go wrong.

"One of these warehouses," he mutters, half to himself, half to Kay. "We'll have to be careful. If those floors won't hold his weight..."

It looked like he was already in the mineshaft, so at this point I'm worried about shit caving in on him. [He holds up his scanner for Ben to see, waiting for his opinion.]

That's probably him. [He points to an odd colored Wander-ish thermal shape.] Or it can be a cat. [He's not sure. He needs Ben's expertise there.]

[The Wander-shape looks like it's lying on top of something, then rolls over and sits up.]

[ Ben examines the scanner closely, and shakes his head. ] Quadratan cats shed heat through their ears, even though they're small-- I'm not seeing heat pools for the ears. I think that's Wander.

--ahah, there we go. Bipedal posture

[ He starts looking around for something sturdy and not connected to any of the crumbling structures to tie a safety line to.]

Let's get the poor kid out of there.

Hold on there, chief. Maybe I can give you hand with that.

[He takes the line and carries it over to the smooth rock surface and pulls a bolt gun from his coat. He fires a thick hunk of metal into the stone, tilted so that the rope likely won't slip with their weight, and starts to tie it.]

I got a flashlight but I don't got a lot of the museum torches to go around. We're gonna have to be conservative.

[His tone says he's not too pleased with the notion, but now he's ready to go down.]

[The rope seems to be sturdy.

The wall of the building is partially crumbling, rocks piling on the ground, but there's several holes showing through the rocks that a cat-sized creature could have crawled through.]

[Ben has his own light in his field gear; it clips to his clothing, allowing him two hands free as he scales down, rifle thumping against his back where it's strapped. He goes to his knees, unclipping that light to manually sweep it through, trying to see which hole opens out where.]

Agent! Can you see anywhere we can get through to the larger tunnels?

[Once he's twists on a long cylindrical torch and hands it over to Ben, before taking one of his own. ]

Yeah, I see a trail. I'll go first, clear the way of spiders and anything green and ugly. You keep an eye out behind us and keep talkin'. It's not like we'd hear 'em comin' anyway so it's best if we stay communicating.

[And he has to give Ben the scanner to watch out for things now. He needs hands for torch and gun. At least it'll give them some idea of the route to take.]

You hear us!? [Kay shouts out to Wander, double checking.]

[In a room somewhere down the corridor Ben and Agent K are facing, Wander finally got bored of sitting on a box and decides to check out the rest of the room. There's nothing here, except for some rotten boxes, and he's finally tempted to walk down one the mineshaft to find his way out, never mind the Creepers, when he hears a familiar voice echoing from one of the corridors.]

Over here! [At last! Something else to do!] I'm headin' right over there!

[He quickly walks down the path towards the direction he heard Agent K.]

Keep your ears open! [Another familiar voice]

Call out if you don't feel safe.

Oh! Ben! [He runs down the corridor now that he's sure the two are up ahead, his footsteps gently hitting the ground.] Jus' keep talkin' an' I'll find you!

Just be careful where you're putting your feet!

[Ben's really fond of the little alien, and he's been on edge since this whole thing started. He sets his safetylight on the ground, lens tilted down to illuminate the ground in front of them without blinding anyone, and takes his rifle off his shoulder, just in case the noise or the light draws anything else.]

[As Wander continues following Ben's voice, the sound of a large amount of dirt falling is heard in another direction. He ignores the noise, thinking that it's just another wall caving in.]

What was that-? Wander, is anything falling on you-?

Hm? [He stops and looks around him. Nothing dangerous heading his way.]

Nope! I'm good! Probably jus' a wall!

[As he continues onward, there's a muffled, continued sound of somthing moving from the same direction the first noise came from.]

Sure thing. [He checks the chamber for a round into his rifle. Then he clips his light on, and leaves the round light Kay gave him pointing down the corridor so he can get up to the next turning and look around.]

Can you see the light yet-?

What light? [He continues down the path, turning the next corner. Is Ben near an exit?]

[But if Ben listens closely, he can hear something small and quick heading down another corridor.]

[This passageway is kind of empty, but once in the while, the sound of something moving in the distance, though it sounds far enough not to be of immediate danger.]
