Midnight masquerade Open to All.

Who: EVERYONE
When: After Midnight
Where: The Rising Sun
Format: Paragraph, action, etc.
What: A special party held at the rising sun. Dorian has told no one what he's celebrating but all drinks are free as long as you come after midnight with the password. and wearing a mask "Layla" is the password
Warnings: EVERYTHING GOES GUYS! PUT WARNINGS IN YOUR SUBJECT LINES IF YOU GET TOO CRAZY!

[ooc; Everyone can tag into the premade threads or make your own thread at the bottom! This is a party post thread, so thread jacking is cool unless otherwise stated. The only room locked in the club is Dorian's office. And if someone pops that lock they will find a half full goblet of blood on his desk, otherwise it is clean.

He has taken care of rides to wherever drunk people need to go too. And lastly; yes there are condoms in the rooms upstairs, if that is something you want. The Password will have be spoken on with an ad about the party a few days beforehand, it does not matter but the password is Layla. Pretty much tag around and have fun guys~! ]

Oh, I glad to be not-dead, don't get me wrong, I just don't consider life anything joyous enough to celebrate either.

Then celebrate being not dead. That is reason enough! [She is sorely tempted to drag him to the bar for a drink, but doubts he will tolerate it.]

At least have one drink in honor of that fact.

[He sighs, rolls his eyes grumpily, but acquiesces.]

All right. One drink. In honour of one thousand years of being difficult to kill.

That is the spirit! [ She grins and gestures towards the bar already moving towards it herself while holding up the necklace for free drinks. ]

Drinks are free after all.

[He follows Tauriel.]

Very magnanimous.

Does alcohol effect you as it does the humans?

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-09-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
It takes more than what humans normally drink for us to feel the effects as far as I can tell. We've a greater tolerance to poisons than they. What of you? Do you feel the effects of drinking?

[ At the bar she orders a drink for herself, and then allows him to do the same, showing off her necklace for the benefit of free drinks. ]
timesbureaucrat: (emotionless)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-09-16 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not from alcohol alone. Not unless I made a conscious effort to allow myself to be effected. But other substances that have little no effect on humans can intoxicate a Gallifreyan. For all the superficial similarities, our physiologies are quite different.

[And he orders a ginger beer.]

Zingerone, shogaols, and gingerols, for example, are inebriating for us. Some things that are deadly poison to humans are nothing to Gallifreyans, while other substances that humans ingest without a second thought are fatal toxins to my kind.

[ She just looks at him in confusion, certain he started speaking a different language. It takes her a long moment to actually speak once she identifies the ginger beer as being non-alcoholic to her. ]

...so... that is alcoholic to you?
timesbureaucrat: (interested)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-09-18 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Essentially, yes. It's not quite the same effect, but close enough.

[He tried ginger snaps once and was inebriated for two hours afterwards.]

Strong wines usually effect us more so than say beers or ales. I do not know the reasons for it, except perhaps that beer and ale is watered down?

[She pauses in thought trying to recall the drinks she had the night she went pole dancing.]

That is aside from this ale my friend and I tried... a romulan ale I believe? It was blue and quite strong!

[ She sips her own drink then, which happens to be a fine red wine. ]

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-09-19 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've never tried a human beer or ale in my lives. The smell doesn't appeal so I'm not keen to drink it simply for the taste.

Romulan ale...I've never even heard of that before.

Time Lords tend to favour ordinary meta-distilled water, or one of the Gallifreyan wines, occasionally black market Dalek juice if someone is feeling extravagant.

What human ale I have had lacks much of a flavor beyond the cask it was fermented in, as far as i am concerned. Mead however is sweet and enjoyable to drink. Romulan ale is... subtle and strong. Perhaps because I am so unused to it.

[ She sipped her wine slowly, savoring the flavor of the red. It naturally was of the sweeter varieties. ]

Meta-distilled? It sounds... metalic and cold. Is that it's taste then too?

You're sounding like Leela. [Narvin just barely suppresses rolling his eyes. Leela was always protesting how artificial everything was on Gallifrey.]

It's water that is fully and completely cleansed of all impurities. No bits of plant, animal, or mineral left to float around in it. It's water that has all the unpleasant bits of nature taken out.
tawarwaith: (pic#8178403)

[personal profile] tawarwaith 2014-09-22 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ She makes a face. It was worse than metallic sounding. ]

It sounds completely bland and flavorless. Where is the joy in drinking something tat tastes like nothing?
timesbureaucrat: (quirk?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2014-09-22 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't drink it for joy. [Time Lords don't do much of anything for joy. At least the non-renegade ones don't.] It's simply to keep us hydrated and it does so in the safest, most efficient possible way.

I fear your people lack something in their lives then, for what good is a long life if you do not enjoy some of the pleasures that are abound?

[ She shakes her head causing the feathers to stir on her mask as she takes another sip of her wine. ]

You must be a stoic race then more so than even our kin in Valinor.

Enjoyment is a weakness. Enjoy something too much, care for something [or someone] too much and if it's taken away it can cause you to be distracted, irrational, agitated.

It's...irresponsible. Renegades enjoy themselves quite a lot I should think. [He says it as if anything that renegades do must, by default, be a bad thing.]
