It's absolutely corking! I don't understand the spiders, though. Every time I see a giant arachnid go by, I wonder if a giant shoe will be following in the near future. Jeeves does not approve of spiders, leastwise not spiders in the house, I suppose he would give leeway to those spiders in their natural habitat. I don't know what he would make of these eight-legged beasts of prodigious size.

That's because it's a party about beating the spiders, Bertie! When this place was new, the spiders were a big problem. But now they know how to deal with them. Is sort of a way to show they're on top of the situation now.

But I think I would like floats shaped like shoes, too. That's a good idea, Bertie. [It surprises him when Bertie manages one.]

Jeeves would be proud of that one, what? [Bertie thinks that he is full of good ideas.]

We should make a giant shoe. Right now. A symbolic shoe to to protect ourselves from the symbolic spiders. [This is the whisky talking.]

I am sure he would be. But Bertie. You are very drunk and I do not have the supplies to make a giant shoe.

Do you need a ride home, man? If you're sober enough to hold on I could give you a lift. I'll not like it if you get sick on me, though, so tell me if I need to pull over.

[Later, he will have forgotten all about it. But for now Bertie brightens at the mention of a ride home. He likes vehicles.]

Jolly good of you to offer, Nikkie. I'm only a trifle sozzled, not all the way to the back gills, so I reckon I could grasp hold well enough.

Oh, I say, that filly coming out of the flower shop doesn't look dressed for gardening at all. [He peers around Niko at the door to the Petal and Stamen with a wrinkled nose.]

[He leans around Bertie to look. Nice. Though, when it comes to women, Niko is easy to please.]

Sometimes you just have to work with what you have, Bertie. [He pats the seat behind him.] Hop on and hold on around my waist.

The poor woman, unable to afford a full outfit of clothing. Perhaps I should inquire where she lives and send her a few crowns...er...emeralds.

[But that is a problem for later. Now, Bertie gets on the speeder like he's mounting a horse and wraps his arms around Niko's waist.]

If you do, do it anonymously so you don't get engaged again. But she probably likes to dress like that. Come on.

[He knows he can't be too crazy with the driving, but he still takes off a touch fast and takes the first corner sharply.]

Is there anywhere you want to stop before I take you home?

[Bertie considers this for a moment.]

I rather fancy a game of darts.

[Playing darts while tipsy is practically a Drone's Club tradition. Somehow no one's lost an eye yet.]

Is there any place around to play darts?

Yes, I know a place.

[Though imagining Bertie at Pugsy's is both worrisome and hilarious. But it can't do too much harm if he's there to protect him.]

Sure, let's do that. But you should stick close to me, alright? These people that go there can get kind of rough. You don't want to go there unless you have a friend that knows it.

[At least Bertie shouldn't, anyway.]

Right-o, Nikkie! I shall stick as close as treacle on fingers. Only not actually on your fingers as we will need those for darts.

That's okay, Bertie. I don't need to be that close to your fingers. [He pats an arm that's around his waist.] Just stay within earshot and we'll be fine.

[Though this means he's now headed in the opposite direction, taking a sharp turn that would make most people wince and heading back towards the slum part of town. Which is hilarious in the company of a man like Bertie. He's pretty sure he can keep him out of trouble. Or that he can deal with the trouble that Bertie starts.]

[Bertie's eyes bug out at the abrupt turn and if he weren't clinging to Niko he probably would have put a hand over his mouth. As it is, he keeps his mouth firmly shut for a few seconds to make sure nothing untoward comes out. Once reassured, he speaks.]

I do believe I left my stomach back there. Oh well, I don't need it for darts, what?
