Who: Grainne, Open
What: A day in the life of a retired Servant. Running errands, skeleton bashing, turning in bounties and general kerfluffles. See prompts!
When: Month 12, Day 13
Where: Around Blackway
Notes & Warnings: TBA
#1
Skeletons seemed fairly easy these days. Grainne practiced and kept her skills sharp, using the skeleton's weak points against them. She actually felt like she was getting good at hunting, though some enjoyment of that was mitigated by the fact most of it wasn't her doing, but the Servant abilities granted to her.
Her feet were silent where she padded on the grass, barefoot, enjoying the silky feeling beneath her skin. It made her feel closer to the wild, and lifted her spirits where nothing else could these days. It was quite a walk around to the other side of the town, but she had lost count of the trips she had made already.

When the day came, and the numbers of skeletons went down, Grainne turned toward the security office to turn in the few bones she found and collected. Money had no real value to her except for a few curiosities here and there, but she saw no reason not to collect it for some rainy day occasions, or new clothes.
She waited her turn, as usual, for someone to come and record her bounty, hoping they wouldn't mind a short chat. It might be the nostalgia she had earlier running through the area outside of town, but she felt a little lonely today.

Whoever had volunteered her for the race may as well have given her a mouse to ride on. The large cat that's supposed to serve as her mount was the most obnoxious, contrary creature she had the misfortune to meet. They may as well have given her a mouse. She hadn't been thrown... yet, the cat could move when he wanted to, but when she rode he just sat down.
Rubbing her rump, she walked into the gardens, wishing they had at least gotten a decent saddle for the beast. Cheetah, she remembered, as she sat down on a bench.
The gardens were a nice spot, though she didn't spend as much time as she used to in there, and that was very intentional...
Anyone who passes by the rose plants may notice that some of the blossoms have been mangled into a petaly pulp, and a few telltale petals may stick to Grainne's skirt and shoes...

[He doesn't like to just let them wander around. He's not too worried about creepers since Rex lets him know if one gets close, and skeletons and spiders make a lot of noise. It's not too hard to take them out from a distance, before they've spotted him.]

It is strange, but I never saw myself in this kind of work.

[His job is to keep people safe, and he takes it pretty seriously.]
Think there's a lot of things about this place nobody expected. You're doing a good thing, though.
no subject
How did you get into the duty? Have you always been a protector?
no subject
Was with the military back home. After that I was guarding caravans. I know what I'm good at, so it was an easy choice.
no subject
You have the bearing of a guardsman, I noticed. Do you like the work? You do not find it boring sometimes or anything like that?
no subject
[It's not always dull, at least. He likes the walk itself. When he was guarding Novac, he had to stand in the same place all night. At least here the job is more interesting than that.]
no subject
Ah, I can take some comfort then that it is not only me. I worry that meant I was not cut out to do it.
[A small hum, and then she seems to relax a bit more.]
I did not get your name before. Mine is Grainne.
no subject
[He says it with a little shrug. Maybe there's someone out there who is never bored with what they're doing, but if there is then he hasn't met them yet.]
Boone. You've been here a little while, right?
[He's seen her around before, he's just never spoken to her. It's not always easy for him to reach out to people when he doesn't have anything to talk to them about.]
no subject
[It had been a lot easier accepting compliments when she was younger, she remembers. Instead of being awkward about it.]
A few weeks before the quarantine, yes. It seems so much longer than it is. You have been here a long time, haven't you?
no subject
[When he got here, he figured he could just leave if he got homesick. He does miss home, but he's more attached to this place now than he thought he'd ever be. He guesses a lot of that is how attached he's gotten to his friends here, too.]
Never thought I'd be here this long. Figured I'd stick around a few months, give the place a chance. Never thought I'd actually wanna stay.

[He sometimes wishes his friends would show up here too, but he figures they're all busy with their own things.]
Still not sure I can call it that. Guess I'll see.
no subject
[She at least seems more at ease now than she did earlier, getting used to talking with him.]
I do wish there were more things to do here, though. What do you do for a hobby?
no subject
[Maybe if he's comfortable here, he should think about staying. Starting again. He misses home, and he especially misses Vegas, but... he thinks he's holding onto his memories more than the actual place itself. Still, it's not easy to picture never going back. He doesn't know if he can do that yet.]
I like to grab a drink and play some pool sometimes. Like to take Rex out for walks, too.
[Not that Rex doesn't get walked enough while Boone is patrolling, but sometimes it's nice to take him through the village, too.]
How about you?
no subject
[She laughs softly.]
I must seem very boring to you.
no subject
[Boone would be bored if he had to do those things, but he won't call Grainne boring for enjoying them.]
Looks like exploring is paying off for you, at least. Wouldn't mind doing more of that myself.

[After all, when Boone first arrived here the only threats they knew about were spiders.]
Maybe we can head out together one day. Seems like you can look after yourself.
[He likes going out alone, but it's always good to have someone to watch your back.]
no subject
I would fear for your safety. It is a small matter if it is just me, but you may be hurt.
[Said as if she didn't look like a frail young woman.
After a pause, she presses a knuckle to her chin.]
...Although you are probably more prepared to deal with something along those lines.
no subject
I can take care of myself. Worse things back home than here.
[Creepers are pretty bad, but they've got nothing on a deathclaw.]
no subject
[She sighs.]
I cannot be hurt by most normal means, so I take risks that others would not, or should not.
no subject
[Boone has said before that people shouldn't worry about him too much, since it seems like he has a habit of not dying when he should. He gets the feeling Grainne means something different, though.]
no subject
[Grainne sets her bag of bones down and approaches him.]
May I?
[It's a simple question to accompany the motion she makes, as if she wishes to touch him or pick him up.]
