Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, intersexed, androgynes, robots, energy beings, and life forms of all kinds. I am Jeffers, your servant, host, and resort AI.

Let me extend gratitude to you all on behalf of the entire community for agreeing to come and render service in the wake of our unfortunate incident with spontaneously frictionless surfaces. Your assistance in rebuilding is greatly valued.

Visitors, I encourage you to speak with the other Imports. Imports, I ask you to help our guests enjoy their stay.

Please consult with any terminal or one of my android drone avatars if you have any questions that cannot be answered by the residents. I most sincerely hope you find your time at Blackstaff a pleasant one.

  • For those of you who enjoy “fun” [Jeffers says as if he’s not sure that any of this really qualifies as fun in his book], Mr. Jellicles’ Emporium requires extensive repair. There are broken windows and bottles hither and thither, and do be careful of the broken glass; we wouldn’t want any further injuries. Broken arcade games must be fixed. Furniture repaired, or, if it is beyond hope, taken away. And small, colourful plastic balls are scattered asunder and must be gathered up to be relocated into a “fun cage,” but worse and far more deadly are the skiballs and bowling balls. I must insist no one drop one of those on one’s own or another’s foot

  • The local restaurants require new food to be brought in. Because of the quarantine, food shortage is somewhat of a danger, therefore any food will do, but I for one would especially appreciate champagne and truffles. In addition, new dishes must be unpacked, furniture repaired, and cooking areas cleaned. I expect the cooking areas to be able to pass the most rigorous of health inspections once the cleaning is finished. Not that we have a ministry of health and safety here, but it is the principle of the thing.

  • With the clinic having been overwhelmed by recent events, they are currently understaffed to handle the full scope of injuries. Assistance treating the wounded and the ill would be a very great help. Do note that only persons with appropriate physician or nursing qualifications will be able to assist patients with direct care. It would not be at all appropriate to have, for example, vehicle mechanics performing surgery. Unless perhaps the patient is a sentient robot car. Then the clinic will make an exception. Many other tasks are available for other volunteers who desire clinic duties, however. In particular, wounded patients may require assistance retrieving personal items, sending messages, or returning home. Furthermore, as always, the clinic would be grateful to receive donations of medicines from your homeworld

  • The loss of friction created an extensive mess around town and I so dislike messes. I would like it very much if knocked over displays were righted, broken glass cleared, and disabled vehicles removed from the streets. Let’s have a nice, tidy village, shall we? Furthermore, some residents misplaced pets during the hullaballoo and would very much like them found and returned. (Not to mention the havoc stray beasts are having on the songbird population.) Shelves in various shops must be restocked with new, unbroken merchandise, and many storefronts and signs are in need of general repair.

And with Jeffers announcement to the population, the town was opened up to anyone willing to help. Some of the citizens who had tended towards suspicion towards imports for some time (an as-of-yet unidentified one took part in sabotage against the town) have changed their views and are now extremely welcoming, offering whatever they can to in return for the help they're getting from the visiting imports.

While the guests are here, they have free rein of the village, and even visiting the wilderness if they have a permit. First they must be instructed on how to defend themselves against the planet's hostile species. A guide is still recommended, but with the busy schedule one is not absolutely essential.

Half of Visscher's face was paralyzed, so all she got was half of a pondering look. The right side remained uncomfortably placid- sometimes he wished he was outright deformed because then he felt as though he would have an excuse.

"I am new again. I was once her before. Right now I'm with the temporary clean up crew."

She seemed nice, and he was never partial to conflict. It made him panic, unsure of what to do with himself. "It is a pleasure. I'm Dr. Visscher." He pronounced it as a German would, "Fisher", (although it came from his grandfather's Dutch side), R soflty pronounced in his accent.

Once she saw his face change expression, she realized what was odd about him. People she had grown up with had similar problems, medicine being what it was in Ancient Ireland, and it wasn't hard to adjust.

"Oh, i-it is nice to meet you, Dr. Vissher." She stumbled a little over trying to duplicate the sounds exactly. "I'm Grainne, I do odd jobs around the resort. Are you stationed at the clinic?"

"Temporarily," he assured her. "I was sent back by accident previously, and I've gotten myself some more lengthy work at home. But when I heard this place had come upon difficulties I made a point of returning. I don't recall meeting you here, though."

And it seemed, unfortunately, that some people he had known were long gone.

"Oh, I came here shortly before the quarantine was placed." Grainne replied, running a hand through a lock of hair sitting on her shoulder. She felt a bit awkward, but he seemed nice enough. "I... well, I came here to... recuperate and I try to do that most days."

It was always unfortunate when two incredibly awkward people met.

"I hope that despite the difficulties, the recuperation is going well. I know that for recovery stress free environments can do wonders. This is hardly lacking stress but with the appropriate emotional support one can- I should probably stop before I get ahead of myself." He winced, but also decided to continue what he was doing with his good side towards her so that she wouldn't see the uneven skew of his expression.

It was easy enough, as he was keeping himself busy with tasks.

Frowning, Grainne settled her hands around her waist and tried to make sense of what just happened. He had been saying something interesting, and then... just stopped, but as to why, it escaped her a bit.

"One can..?" She asked, not entirely willing to let it go. What was those doctors that deal in emotions called? "I am not sure. I still feel like me most of the time. Are you... um... a psychologist?" The answer finally came from the depths of her memory, not entirely sure if it was something she heard or some random bit of Grail knowledge.

"I am a general doctor. But a low stress life in general is good for one physically and mentally. The physical symptoms can lead to ongoing cardiovascular problems, weight gain, reproductive problems, generally the side-effects are very unpleasant and largely ignored."

He wrang his hands together.

"Sorry I am prone to talking a lot about things no one is interested in, and I thought for a moment that I was boring you." It was an ongoing fault, the assumption that no one was interested, the embarrassment for having said too much, but also the eagerness to explain things.

Visscher got a couple of slow blinks in response, and her head tilted to one side as if to help her think on that.

"Oh no... it is interesting. I do not know anything except very broad things about the modern world." Some of those symptoms explain a few things that happened later in life, but it didn't seem terribly pertinent to her now though. "Modern medicine I only know very basic things. It seems to avoid using herbs, else I might have more to say on it."

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-12 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
"My modern world might not be the same modern that many people are used to- but I might be more acquainted to the idea than most." Especially knowing how his parents met. And it wasn't ego in his face when he said that (or rather on half his face), it was fondness as he thought of his lost family.

"You are familiar with herbal medicines?" She didn't bother hiding her surprise. She knew people back home still had clinics devoted to herbal medicines, but... they seemed to be looked down on by others. "Your world must be different indeed if it is still hand in hand with current practice." Was he fond of herbs?
frontier_doktor: (◄huge eyebrow raise►)

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-12 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"I use them in my treatments, along with pharmeceuticals, yes. If something genuinely works, it works."

But then he rubbed the back of his neck, one brow raising as he stared off to the side. "My parents were from the 1960's, and were taken into a time centuries later. So 'modern' is a bit of an unusual concept for me."

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-12 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh! So your parents were displaced in time as I was?" Now Grainne's interest is hooked, and she started to help him in his work, just to hear more of him and his parents.

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-13 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't that he was unwilling to tell it, as he could talk endlessly about things. But there was so much of it that he didn't know where to start.

"They were good people, and I think it was the best thing that ever could have happened for them."
athousandcurses: (!! Cloak)

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-13 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Did they stay there?" She didn't mean to pry, really. A small amount of water appeared, moving around the ground and carrying away debris with it. It moved with a mind of its own, seemingly, as it deposited the matter into a corner for easy removal.
frontier_doktor: (◄gesture►)

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-14 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, my sister and I were-" he stopped talking to watch the water move around, a brief look of bafflement crossing his face.

"Oh." He commented, distracted now, realizing she was the source and now following what she was doing with the water. Unless it was some odd water creature instead of her. That was possible, too.
athousandcurses: (!! Cloak)

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-14 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah?" Distracted by his cut off, the water stopped moving too, and seemed to "hover" for a moment before relaxing and forming a normal puddle. "Is something wrong?"
frontier_doktor: (◄squint►)

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-17 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not wrong," he observed, tucking his hands in his pockets for that moment so he could walk around the water that, moments earlier, had been mobile. "Unusual, is a better way to describe it."
athousandcurses: (Peek?)

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-17 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh! You are talking about my water blade. Have you not seen magic like this?" A faint smile appeared on her face, and the water tensed again and formed a sphere.
frontier_doktor: (◄point►)

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-17 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Magic really isn't something I've encountered at all in my travels at home." Part of it was sad, though. It made something in his head sing, and he knew it was the Queen's fault. She couldn't help it, she missed the water, the oceans, but her planet was gone now. Ruined. And she was stuck to this ape who had no appreciation for water as it should be.

He felt a little sorry for her.
athousandcurses: (What is that?)

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-17 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"There may be a few people around here that practice other forms." The sphere rippled gently, and then went back to a puddle. "Maybe your world is one where magic has disappeared. Universal laws do not always seem to translate when traveling between them."
frontier_doktor: (◄doubtful►)

[personal profile] frontier_doktor 2015-03-18 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
"There was a man here, named Braska, that I spoke to briefly but I did not have a chance to see the extent of his abilities." At least what he claimed. More was the pity.

"Thank you for the help, though. I do appreciate it." And he was sure that the town did, as well.
athousandcurses: (Peek?)

[personal profile] athousandcurses 2015-03-18 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I remember Braska. He seemed a nice man, though I did not get to see his magic either. And you are welcome." She pulled both hands behind her back and smiled briefly, happy that he had shared with her.

"I suppose I should ah... go throw this away." It was sort of embarrassing that a young woman could also provoke a similar sense of embarrassment and anxiety, but, thus far, she had been nothing but kind. That put him much more at ease.

"It is good to meet you. Maybe some other time you can show me some tricks, if you catch me before I go."
