I don't like Latin.

[He pulls another leg from the ball in his hands.]
Got some slavers back home who call themselves Caesar's Legion. I've heard them use Latin. Not sure how much they know, but...
[They just managed to ruin that language for him, much to Arcade's dismay.]
I know they're not the only people who use it. Just makes me think of them, that's all.
[And thinking about them pisses him off.]

[He peers at Boone again. Nope, Boone definitely doesn't look like he comes from the Roman Era. Must be an interesting timeline he comes from.]
Is the original still around or was someone inspired by history?
no subject
[He says the word with a slight curl of the lip, his eyes narrowed.]
Can't say I know much about the original, but I guess it doesn't matter. It was better left in the past.

They were orderly, had a good appreciation for proper bureaucracy, but were otherwise primitive and barbaric. Nevertheless it seems that every other petty dictator wants to pretend that his or her autocratic nation is New Rome.

[He drinks a little more, pulls another leg from his spider.]
Their leader went as far as to name himself Caesar, said he was the "Son of Mars" or something. All his men pretty much worship him. They all wear skirts and old sports equipment for armour. Not complaining about that part, though. Means I know exactly who to shoot.

They are your enemies I take it? [It's definitely the impression Narvin is getting, but best not to make assumptions. Perhaps Boone just has a strong aversion to men in sports equipment.]

[And that was before they took Carla from him.]
Managed to kick them outta the Mojave, though. Wouldn't have come here if they were still around. Couldn't have left without knowing what I'd come back to.
[He won't be surprised if they try to come back one day, but he doubts it'll be anytime soon.]

[Narvin thinks its funny, in his dry way, to use Latin to congratulate Boone for his victory over the Legion.]
no subject
You done with the Latin yet?
[Congratulatory or not, it still bothers him.]
no subject
[Pause.]
It was also the language of Earth science once, on the northwestern continent, and the language of the mottoes of a good number of nations.

[He's tried to see it from Arcade's point of view, but he just... can't. He hears Latin, and he thinks of the Legion. It bothers him to think they've ruined an entire language for him, but he supposes it's not like he was ever going to learn it or anything. And with the exception of Arcade, nobody else speaks Latin anyway.]

[He has a lot of men, and there's only one of him. He wouldn't be surprised if Caesar was fluent, but he can't imagine the entire Legion is.]
It's how they all greet each other, though. And some gave themselves Latin names. The important ones.

[That's enough names to get the point across. Besides, he doesn't remember all of them. Just the more important ones.]
And yeah, there was a Gaius Magnus too last I heard.
[So Narvin is right there. He never heard of anyone with Maximus in their name, though.]
