Who: Agent K and Various
What: A trip to his univers and a discussion about going to Linda's
When: During the The Voyage Home plot.
Where: Security / MiB verse
Notes & Warnings: I'm aiming for humor with this one, so it shouldn't get over PG-13. Information on Kay's home here.

A Talk with Linda

[Kay is in his office, sorting out his affairs. Everyone else might be taking this as a fun chance to go home, or else they should in his opinion. Kay's intentions are practical, and he wants to follow through on a promise.]

[He's already planning on asking Una and Narvin to come along, despite the fact that he knows there's a bit of oil-and-water there, two differing perspectives might get him answers concerning Linda's dilemma than just his own. One with a miraculous gift to face situations of high pressure with cool and calm and ingenuity (something Kay holds in high regard), and another with a brilliant intellect rarely encountered. Too bad he has none of that latter calm and is prone to fits of destructive paranoia.]

[Still, with both of them helping him it will be a great advantage.]

[When he sees Linda go by, he calls out to her.] Esquivel. I want a talk with you before I go.

Una and Narvin's big Adventure

[It's a mercifully short line at the intake, and by mercifully short one also means that it's nearly a fifteen minute wait. Kay is staying with them because he has to clear the tech that he brought back. For once, he's not wearing his security uniform from Quadratus but rather his valued black suit, something he's been missing and something that's crucial to his identity.]

Are you both doin' alright? [He checks back with them, waiting for the big sluggy grub alien in line in front of him to squirm forward.]

[For once in her life, Una is in a situation where she really has to try not to stare. She's been in a lot of strange places, but this intake zone is something else altogether, what with the sheer array of life-forms on display. It's enough to distract her from Narvin's eternally disagreeable presence nearby. ]

Very well, thank you.

[She'd add more, but suddenly what appears to be a glossy buglike eye on the end of a tentacle lowers itself right in front of her, and she lets out a small startled noise. One of the aliens in line behind them appears to be curious, as well as lacking in manners.]

[Linda has been thinking about trying to talk to Kay herself. after all, she knows she has a chance to go back to Chester's Mill right now, and while it's not something that she would do for herself under the circumstances, she's been wondering if there's a way to use it to help her town]

[but when Kay calls her name, all she's thinking about is work, and she frowns, wondering what he'd need to "talk with" her about. she immediately stops, turning back and heading into his office, her expression slightly concerned]
Yes, sir?

[Narvin isn't entirely comfortable surrounded by a wide array of distinctly non-Gallifreyanoid aliens, but it's not an unfamiliar state of affairs for him. It reminds him a bit of the false peace summit. The slug alien looks like it could be a distant cousin to the Nekkestani.

Still, it has him on edge, arms crossed over his chest. At that false peace summit, he nearly got blown up.]

I'm perfectly fine.

[Narvin answers Kay's question in a tight, tense voice.

When the dangling eye comes down between him and Una, he smacks it lightly but sharply with the back of his hand.]

Excuse me. Keep your eye to yourself.

[There's an incredulous look on her face at mating displays, but she decides she really doesn't want to know.]

Ah. Yes. No offence taken.

[She looks around again.] This is extraordinary.
timesbureaucrat: (wtf?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-05-12 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Mating displays?

[Oh Rassilon.]

That was merely his eye, wasn't it?

And are they all always this busy?

[Up ahead she can see something like a three-foot-tall bipedal elephant making noises in a language she's never heard before, but which have the unmistakable indignant do-you-know-who-I-am sound that seems to be universal in all languages.]
domesheriff: (Gazing)

[personal profile] domesheriff 2015-05-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [she's visibly surprised by that revelation] You're...really going to check that out back home? [she pauses, not sure what to say for a minute. she's so grateful she's speechless] I mean...thanks.

[and at his request, she nods, taking his comm] Yeah. But other than the dome appearing and just...being there, it hasn't really done anything. Everything else has just been because it's there--car accidents, injuries, no communication, fire, disease. Do you want to know about those things, too?

[she has no idea what someone could do to get rid of a mysterious dome over a town, so she doesn't want to jump to any conclusions about what might be important]

[Narvin sighs and removes his staser from a dimensionally transcendental pocket. He'd rather keep his weapon on him, and concealed, but the risk of getting detained if caught smuggling a weapon in just wasn't worth it.

At least this place looks safe enough.

After the staser comes assorted harmless gadgets and tools. More than ought to fit in his pockets.]

See the sights? I never thought there was very much to see on Earth aside from the Great Polyhedrons of Egypt. But then, I've only seen a small part of 20th century Germany.
una_persson: (o rly?)

[personal profile] una_persson 2015-05-13 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Una snorts a little at "polyhedrons". She unslings the leather messenger bag in which she's carrying a fairly standard array of late-twentieth/early-twenty-first century odds and ends—even some US currency—and unbuckles her shoulder holster. She's only carrying the Travel Agent needle gun this time, not her S&W. She thought that might be overkill this time. Even in America.]

Don't worry, Narvin. We'll cover for you if you accidentally say anything silly.

[She's looking forward to Kay's explanation, frankly.]

[Narvin crosses his arms.]

I've been undercover on Earth before, you know. It was in 1939, but I can't imagine that much has changed in less than a century. [He says the word "century" like other people might say "decade."] I'm sure my human studies for that assignment will all come back to me. "Sieg Heil" and all the rest.

[Una rolls her eyes at 1939, but actively flinches at Sieg Heil.]

That is not going to go over well here at all.
timesbureaucrat: (slick bastard)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-05-15 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, they must have lost that war by now. The Sieg never materialized. Mind you, it sometimes seem as if every amateur chrononaut with a primitive time drive attempts to change the outcome one way or another. If they're not trying to create an alternate reality where the Nazis conquer the globe, they're trying to assassinate Hitler before his rise to power. In the Agency, we call that era The Front Door, because everyone passes through it at some point in their early career.

[Narvin cranes his neck to look at the unknown devices just a little bit closer, curiosity bubbling up.]

What are those things? ...Is that a compressed-space mass to energy transfer anti-singularity? [He tilts his head in fascination. It's perhaps not as good as weapons tech, but he suspects that any of the really interesting weapons are probably kept locked away somewhere, in the MIB's equivalent of the Anomaly Vault.]
una_persson: (watching you)

[personal profile] una_persson 2015-05-15 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Una keeps her hands to herself, because she can scarcely guess what half the items here are. She pauses in front of a thing that looks like a hand-held garden sprayer and gives Narvin a sardonic look.]

There's an "alternate reality" [you can hear the inverted commas] out there where Hitler's a police chief in Berlin. Which sounds to me like someone succeeded in changing matters in at least one parallel, for a certain definition of success.

[Baiting Narvin? Maybe just a bit?]

[she nods. as little as she's shared with anyone here so far, she's willing, without hesitation, to tell him anything that might lead to help for Chester's Mill] Okay. I'll get that to you. [just considering his request already has her thinking of events that she'd been trying to put out of her mind over the months that she's been here. it won't be easy for her to retell, but she'll do it]

[but his next request is, if possible, even more surprising than his first]
Only if we're sure the missile isn't going to destroy Chester's Mill when we get there! [she blurts out the words without thinking. lowering her voice, she adds:] Sorry, sir. [and, after a pause:] I know, this is probably our best chance for you to see the dome yourself--and that's the best chance we've got of getting rid of it. I just...don't want to lose Chester's Mill trying to save it.

Failed time lines. [Narvin sniffs.] Unimportant, I'm sure. I've travelled to a few of them myself.
