Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, intersexed, androgynes, robots, energy beings, and life forms of all kinds. I am Jeffers, your servant, host, and resort AI.

Let me extend gratitude to you all on behalf of the entire community for agreeing to come and render service in the wake of our unfortunate incident with spontaneously frictionless surfaces. Your assistance in rebuilding is greatly valued.

Visitors, I encourage you to speak with the other Imports. Imports, I ask you to help our guests enjoy their stay.

Please consult with any terminal or one of my android drone avatars if you have any questions that cannot be answered by the residents. I most sincerely hope you find your time at Blackstaff a pleasant one.

  • For those of you who enjoy “fun” [Jeffers says as if he’s not sure that any of this really qualifies as fun in his book], Mr. Jellicles’ Emporium requires extensive repair. There are broken windows and bottles hither and thither, and do be careful of the broken glass; we wouldn’t want any further injuries. Broken arcade games must be fixed. Furniture repaired, or, if it is beyond hope, taken away. And small, colourful plastic balls are scattered asunder and must be gathered up to be relocated into a “fun cage,” but worse and far more deadly are the skiballs and bowling balls. I must insist no one drop one of those on one’s own or another’s foot

  • The local restaurants require new food to be brought in. Because of the quarantine, food shortage is somewhat of a danger, therefore any food will do, but I for one would especially appreciate champagne and truffles. In addition, new dishes must be unpacked, furniture repaired, and cooking areas cleaned. I expect the cooking areas to be able to pass the most rigorous of health inspections once the cleaning is finished. Not that we have a ministry of health and safety here, but it is the principle of the thing.

  • With the clinic having been overwhelmed by recent events, they are currently understaffed to handle the full scope of injuries. Assistance treating the wounded and the ill would be a very great help. Do note that only persons with appropriate physician or nursing qualifications will be able to assist patients with direct care. It would not be at all appropriate to have, for example, vehicle mechanics performing surgery. Unless perhaps the patient is a sentient robot car. Then the clinic will make an exception. Many other tasks are available for other volunteers who desire clinic duties, however. In particular, wounded patients may require assistance retrieving personal items, sending messages, or returning home. Furthermore, as always, the clinic would be grateful to receive donations of medicines from your homeworld

  • The loss of friction created an extensive mess around town and I so dislike messes. I would like it very much if knocked over displays were righted, broken glass cleared, and disabled vehicles removed from the streets. Let’s have a nice, tidy village, shall we? Furthermore, some residents misplaced pets during the hullaballoo and would very much like them found and returned. (Not to mention the havoc stray beasts are having on the songbird population.) Shelves in various shops must be restocked with new, unbroken merchandise, and many storefronts and signs are in need of general repair.

And with Jeffers announcement to the population, the town was opened up to anyone willing to help. Some of the citizens who had tended towards suspicion towards imports for some time (an as-of-yet unidentified one took part in sabotage against the town) have changed their views and are now extremely welcoming, offering whatever they can to in return for the help they're getting from the visiting imports.

While the guests are here, they have free rein of the village, and even visiting the wilderness if they have a permit. First they must be instructed on how to defend themselves against the planet's hostile species. A guide is still recommended, but with the busy schedule one is not absolutely essential.

"I'm only doing what has to be done." She waited for Kay to finish stocking his plate before she sat down and took some for herself. "Once I'm finished with this, I'll be working on promoting our business for the rest of my stay."
timeshorizon: (Talking)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-03-28 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem. I'm Dr Chenka--Liv Chenka. [now that the patient looks pacified, she's more willing to make conversation] Do you normally work here, or are you just visiting, too?
timeshorizon: (Serious)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-03-28 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course not. [take her tone as you will, Narvin]

[Liv makes a face at that question. she considers briefly before answering, wondering what he might know of where she and the Doctor have been since she last saw Narvin] I wasn't with him when I left. And believe it or not, I didn't think the Daleks I was with would be very interested in coming here to help people.
timesbureaucrat: (shifty)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-03-29 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Daleks. [He sniffs in disgust.]

Those vile creatures should be w-- [He was going to say "wiped from existence" in a casual, habitual expression of his violent dislike of them. But as the meaning catches up to his words, they stick in his throat. Because he tried that once, and it hadn't gone well.

He clears his throat, changes direction.]

So the Doctor is abandoning his humans across time and space again? One would think that after the Master ran off with Molly O'Sullivan, he'd learn better.
most_feared: please don't use, i paid for these (k - not amused ever)

"Public image is somethin' I've never been too good at it," he admitted, between bites of his bean cake. He never had much of a chance, and never cared what people thought of him. He just tried to work a lot. He knew there were other MiB officers that could sell patents or act as agents for alien actors, but...

He motioned to her. "What did you do back home?"
imaginary_wife: (18)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-03-29 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thankfully just visiting." Thankfully, she realized, painted the place in a worse light than what it struck her.

"Sorry. It's a nice enough. People will probably be pretty happy here." Except with Niles around. She wasn't excited to see Pottinger, not after the way he had made himself known to her.
notthebattleship: (like Varrick so she went faster again)

[personal profile] notthebattleship 2015-03-29 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't come easy to her. She was used to keeping quiet and deflected all personal attention.

"My husband and I own a global shipping business," she said after a bite of her own cake. "He does some inventing on the side, and I'll be displaying some of out products at the resort lobby tomorrow."
timeshorizon: (Angry)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-03-30 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[she raises an eyebrow at Narvin's odd hesitation and rephrasing, but her expression at his next words is sour] It's not exactly that. The Daleks seem to be rewriting Earth's history right now--which, and correct me if I'm wrong, is just the sort of thing Time Lords usually take care of.

[and the Doctor didn't mean for her to get captured, although he does have a rather horrible track record in that department]
timeshorizon: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-03-30 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[she nods] I haven't had much time to make an impression, but it seems nice enough. I mean, aside from the disaster that brought us here. [she's not sure she really understands what happened with that, but it clearly caused a fair amount of destruction]

[Meh's comment makes Liv wonder if she's anxious to get home and back to something else. then again, Liv could say the same about herself]
imaginary_wife: (23)

[personal profile] imaginary_wife 2015-03-30 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's weird as hell, which means scientifically I can't make sense of it. This place has its own special sort of rules though.

[She tries not to think of Niles. Maybe she'll get her rant out later. Not know. Instead, to distract herself as she picks up a tablet to scroll through some charts, she comments to Liv-] Liv's a nice name. [Liv is a lot like "Lev", similar enough that it gives her the slightest pang of warm nostalgia.]
theugly: (You finna try sneaking up on me?)

Tuco's shoulders jerked as the man's face mashed onto the counter. He looked startled, then annoyed, his features stretching and squashing with the realization that it's a lot harder to start bets when one of the two competitors is unconscious.

He took the offered glass, spared it the briefest of glances and drained it. Was busy clearing his throat loudly when Visscher returned to his side again.

"Very kind," he said, nodding towards the packet of tea. "But very wasted, too. He's never going to thank you, friend."
most_feared: please don't use, i paid for these (k - say what?)

[personal profile] most_feared 2015-03-31 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"What products do you usually work in?" He finished off the cup of tea and, rather than put any more obligation on her, got up to take it and any other dirty dishes over to the sink himself.
notthebattleship: (the zombie spirits so they were at piece)

[personal profile] notthebattleship 2015-03-31 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
She was already prepared to get up the moment Kay was finished with his tea and was already pushing herself off the chair, but she accepted his offer to help and sat back down.

"It's a large variety, most of them barely make it through Research and development." She held out her empty plate for Kay to take. "He's worked on hair dyes, transportation vehicles for the polar regions, small aquatic vessels, an inflatable snow suit, a magnetic train system, fighting suits, a line of pastries, and movers, and many other things."

She counted on her fingers as she went through her mental list, pausing after the last one. "Are you familiar with movers, sir?"

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-04-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
[she nods] I've picked up on that much.

[Liv isn't really sure what to say to that] So's Meh. [one-syllable names are common where she's from, so she's known a couple Mays in her time, but the name doesn't make the impression on her that Liv's does on Meh] So where are you from?
most_feared: Please don't use. Screencaps @ http://screencap-me.livejournal.com/90245.html and http://screencap-me.livejournal.com (k - you okay slick?)

[personal profile] most_feared 2015-04-01 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Movers. He responded by just shaking his head as he took his seat again, raising a thick brow at her questioningly.
luckymercenary: (Felix 10)

[personal profile] luckymercenary 2015-04-01 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Felix's helmet continues to stare at the girl, though his eyes behind the helmet are on Liz.]

Yeah, so I heard... Such a shame, too, for such a place to be hit like it has. [He figured it was a decent enough paycheck.] Only just got in myself.

When you're done, let's get this little darling back to her mom.
notthebattleship: (a good day to do what has to be one)

[personal profile] notthebattleship 2015-04-01 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Fascinating. She has to invite him tomorrow for a demonstration.

"We roll a piece of film with hundreds of photos developed on it by a lens and project it on a screen. It's moves fast enough to create the illusion that the picture is moving. Varrick decided he could use that technology to tells stories to the public, which he named 'movers'."

A very fitting designation, in her opinion.
most_feared: please don't use, i paid for these (k - jeebs what the hell?)

[personal profile] most_feared 2015-04-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah, we got a version of those. Called movies. Wouldn't mind seeing which ones you have. I know we got some in our library."

Though it sounded like it was pretty new in her neck of the woods, and basically they were the only way the town was going to get anything new for a while.
notthebattleship: (and did a backflip and landed)

[personal profile] notthebattleship 2015-04-02 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," she replied in the same dry voice. Her raised eyebrows did give away the genuine surprise she felt.

"I only brought a few demonstration reels and the first part of his mover series. But I would love to see your collection." She assumed that they worked in a similar manner to films back home, though the different name could mean there was another kind of technology behind it.

Zhu Li stood up and patted down the front of her dress. "I'm going out to eat now. We can show each other our reels sometime tomorrow."
timesbureaucrat: (wtf?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-04-02 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Daleks are doing what?! [His voice grows shrill, appalled. Not that he would put anything past the Daleks--no crime against the timelines is too great for their morally depraved minds. But he is surprised that they're being so blatant about it, almost daring the Time Lords to intervene.]

They're growing bolder and bolder by the day.
timeshorizon: (Questioning)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-04-02 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Liv's focus is still on the girl and the bandages rather than Felix] Disasters can hit anywhere. It's what you do after them that counts, and at least this place knew enough to ask for help.

Just a second. [she finishes bandaging the girl's wounds, nodding in approval as she looks back at her] You're going to need to change those regularly and put ointment on the cuts. I'll get you some.

[and she stands, going to their meager supplies to see if she can find something appropriate. a few minutes later, she returns holding a tube that she offers to the girl] Wash your hands after you use that, and don't get any in your eyes. [addressing Felix now, she says:] Let's figure out where her mother got to.
timeshorizon: (Sad)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-04-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[she sighs] I think you can blame the Dalek Time Controller for that. [and, after a beat:] Not to mention the Master.

[in short, things have not been going well for Earth lately]
timesbureaucrat: (bwh?)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-04-03 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Kappa Chi is allying himself with the Daleks? Even as mad and power hungry as he is, I would think he would realize that such an alliance could never end well for him.

Or... [Another possibility crosses his mind.] ...are the two simply playing a cosmic game of tug-o-war with Earth in the middle?
timeshorizon: (Considering)

[personal profile] timeshorizon 2015-04-05 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Liv shakes her head] I don't know, but that plan wouldn't surprise me.

[she finishes bandaging the girl and adjusts her position on the bed to be more comfortable] So just how long does that weapon of yours knock people out for, anyway?
timesbureaucrat: (hmm)

[personal profile] timesbureaucrat 2015-04-05 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Not long. She should be waking up in a few microspans.

[He brushes his fingers against his mouth.]

So, the Daleks, the Master, and the Doctor all converging on one time and place. I can already imagine the enormous mess we're going to have to clean up.
